Well, I was not trying to be "abusive" or "brush" anyone off. I report a lot of bugs and help a lot of people on this list. I do it in my sparetime at home and I try to be a good advocate within SuSE for the complaints and concerns of the users on this list. I don't have to do such things. I am not required to be on this list or to help anyone on this list.
Well I was just forcing myself just to monitor the thread but I can not do it anymore without expressing my own thoughts. These are not related to support only but my understanding of the SuSE concept and I may be completely wrong in my way of thinking. Let me try to go over the points which I was forcing myself. 1) Where is the 7.0 iso 7.xyz iso I want ftp first then will buy. many people may have different perspectives on this issue. As I see it Suse is 100 % right to delay the ftp. They may want to make sure that all the problem areas are solved before they put the iso. As I understand it the ftp version is evaluation and if one has lot's of problems with the installation and needs to do lots of updates either to solve the security issues (which is IMHO not 100 % under control of Suse) or the second reason for the updates could be to resolve the problematic behaviors of the software /hardware issues. It you are evaluating something you would like to encounter problems as little as possible. I think this as a test drive for a car If there are lots of uncomfortable issues or malfunctioning engine problems I do not think I would be willing to buy the car even though the salesman says no problem we'll fix it. Consequently I think Suse is taking a similar approach and I would vote this on the customer satisfaction area. 2) Many times there are requests where is the new xyz package everyone has placed them at their ftp why doesn't do Suse do the same thing. Well I am not an expert on the security subject yet I would call this perfectionism. In my way of thinking Suse does not want to jeopardize the security of the clients working environment and makes sure everything is almost perfect before they do announce the availability. (there were lots of security warning mails flying and Suse has not updated all the packages which takes time I understand) 3) Support I apply the Murphy's law generally "if anything fails read the manual." If I may suggest Suse to put the Support explanation on the first page rather than the back maybe people would notice it earlier and do not start shouting earlier. I have used the support so far twice and on both occasions found the staff helpful in solving the problem. The same goes to the sales department also ,although I should mention, it took me forty-five minutes to make the sales to understand why I want a saturday UPS delivery in Germany ( she was trying to help me save money buy insisting to have it shipped the regular mail). Overall I am a very happy customer with Suse and will continue be as long as they keep producing the quality packaging of Linux. -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
