This is a difficult one....and circumstances are different depending on your geographical location. I live in the UK...where SuSE is recognised as a market leader In previous versions....there was no doubt whatsoever....SuSE was the best value distribution available. Especially when you looked at the prices of the opposition. Due to the lack of information on the individual packages contained in 7 Personal and Professional...I had more or less decided to miss out this upgrade. However news of the subscription service appeared on the UK site on Monday, and I duly ordered my subscription. Even including the postage......it is marginally cheaper than the Personal Edition. In the UK...SuSE Professional is still much cheaper than the Red Hat equivalent, but Mandrake (standard and Delux), which has a very good reputation for new users, can now be obtained cheaper than the SuSE equivalents. Since SuSE UK has come on scene...it would appear that distributors have less opportunity to discount, as everyone appears to be selling at approx the same price. Perhaps the company has decided to price the product more realistically, and promote itself as quality...not quantity.... but care has to to be taken not to push people in another direction.
