I successfully upgraded to 6.4 from the SuSE site. I downloaded almost everything into a second HD. Then I used Yast to Upgrade. Download took 4 hours on cable modem- Yast took about 15 hours :)
The most difficult problem I found was finding an ftp program which would support high download rates. xftp ran at about 10kb/s while gftp ran at 200-500kb/s. Another problem was that one of the 6.4 directories was full of symlinks, so the gftp tried to download the packages twice. Luckily I caught it in time.
There has to be a simpler way. Rob.
