What's the difference between reiserfs and ext3?
Both are jounalling (or is it journaled?) file systems.
Which leads to the next question: What is a journaling file system?
In short: the file system keeps a separate log of all transactions that have been made on it. So there is no need to do a complete check of the full fule system, when it has been unmounted uncleanly (e.g. due to a crash), replaying the journal is enough. The advantage: no hour-long file system checks on reboot ;) Here's a long discussion about this on Slashdot: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/03/30/2256219&mode=flat Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer 90443 Nuernberg, Germany -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
