I can't get my cd player to play music cds. Most cd player applications just terminate as soon as I start them. Some of them leave error messages, as follows: When I try to use the Workman cd player, the Workman window flashes up just long enough for me to read the message, "No CD in drive." An error message then appears on the command line: /dev/cdrom: No such device The kscd CD player opens with a message box that says "CDROM read or access error. Please make sure you have access permissions to: /dev/cdrom". I've modified the permissions on /dev/cdrom, and they seem liberal enough to me: ls -l /dev/cdrom returns lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Nov 17 13:43 /dev/cdrom -> sonycd likewise, ls -l /dev/sonycd gives me brwxr-xr-x 1 root disk 15,0 Jul 22 1999 /dev/sonycd I know not to mount the drive before trying to run a cd player application, there is a CD in the drive, and my CD channel is unmuted. I'm running SuSE 6.2, and I have a Sony IDE DDU220E06 DVD-ROM drive. I'm using a SoundBlaster PCI128 sound card with Alsa 5.2 drivers. I don't think it's a sound driver problem, sound works just fine otherwise. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
