Can you send an ifconfig of both machines?
This is over the box with no net connection (yet, i hope):
ifconfig eth0 eth Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:5A:53:05:1D inet addr:192.168.1.3 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame0 TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:10 Baseadress:0x300
And this is over the gateway:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 40:01:00:00:22:D3 inet addr:194.165.253.43 Bcast:194.165.253.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2553805 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:1 TX packets:2755266 errors:8 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:8 collisions:125551 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:3 Base address:0x300
Hmm.. Very strange. Try 3c90xcfg.exe in DOS. Try to config the card so that it can't set anything itself (link type, modem, etc). Also, set the card to be used in a server instead of a workstation. It helps.
