Let me expound on it a little bit more. I have actually 3 machines doing the same thing: basically sound recording with multiple sound cards. They are continuously at around 30-40% CPU utilization. They are all Suse 7.3's. 2 with 2.4.10 kernel, 1 with the 2.4.16 kernel which is at the ftp.suse.com. They all have the same problem, once in a while. Although, 2.4.16 seems to log the same error message but, still continues to function whereas 2.4.10's freeze. I am not too sure on this point, though. So, I tend to think that might be a kernel problem rather than hardware. It also seems to happen more often on the slowest machine. On Fri, 8 Mar 2002, Sven Michels wrote:

and a freeze after that. Does anybody have an idea, why this is happenning. Is it more likely to be related to a hardware problem or a kernel bug? Any suggestions to prevent that?
try a kernel update, 2.4.16 is on the suse ftp.
