You are correct in that we need a sound definition, of what we understand
by usable. (That definition is not part of the mission statement, but
should be prepared too).
I understand 'more usable' in terms of making it more efficient in a general
sense. Not in the sense of simplification that would hinder complex work.

I disagree with the conclusion that we should not strive for a usable 
system.  To me, aunt Tillie's name conveys the idea of a disrespected end
user. I wouldn't want to discriminate against any user group in the mission
statement.
