Ich möchte meine SuSE 7.0 auf das neue Notebook (Acer 613TXV) meiner Frau installieren, auf dem Windows ME vorinstalliert ist. Um Platz für Linux zu verschaffen, wollte ich FIPS 2.0 benutzen, aber da gab's eine Warnung, dass es nicht unter Windows verwendet werden soll sondern von einer boot-Diskette. Dieses Notebook hat aber kein Diskettenlaufwerk und so habe ich mich entschieden, es mit dem mir verfügbaren PartitionMagic 4.0 zu versuchen. Aber das hat sich nicht automatisch installiert und ich bekam die Meldung: "Diese Version von PartitionMagic ist u.U. mit Windows Millenium Edition nicht kompatibel." Dennoch konnte ich es manuell installieren und wenigstens die Partitionsschritte durchgehen; aber beim Versuch, die Änderungen zuzuweisen kam von PM die Meldung, diese benötigen, in den DOS-Modus zu schalten und dann neu zu booten. Passiert ist jedoch nur das Neu-Booten, ohne dass die Änderungen angelegt worden sind. Ich habe mehrere Operation mit PM probiert, doch sind alle genau so erfolglos abgelaufen. Danach entschied ich mich, doch noch FIPS unter Windows zu versuchen: Zunächst war alles in Ordnung aber dann hat sich das Programm mit der Meldung verabschiedet, dass sich die Anzahl der Sektoren (lang) laut dem Boot-Sektor mit dem, was in der Partitionstabelle steht, nicht übereinstimmt. Jetzt bin ich am Ende meines Lateins und hoffe, dass jemand hier mir weiterhelfen kann -- meine Frau braucht unbedingt sowohl Linux als auch Windows auf dem Notebook. Soll bzw. muss ich die Partitionstabelle ändern? Wenn ja, wie mache ich das (wohlgemerkt, unter Windows ME). Oder wäre es besser, Windows ME von der Rescue-Diskette einfach neu zu installieren. Oder deutet diese Diskrepanz auf eine beschädigte Festplatte hin? Ich füge unten die Debug-Datei der FIPS-Session bei, falls die nützliche Details enthält. Noch eine möglicherweise relevante Information: Windows füllt nicht die ganze Festplatte (20 GB), sondern die letzen 7,8 MB sind frei und unformatiert.
