Yes, similar to Indian or Semitic languages, Hangeul is alfabetical and only combined for reasons of beauty. Me too, I think languages like Korean (or Hindi or Arabian, but also Japanese Kana) do not need a special input method, they could easily be mapped on a normal keyboard.
Of course you could map the Jamo on a keyboard layout (and it is like
that on a Korean keyboard layout), but you still need an input method
to compose the Hangul from the Jamo.
For Japanese you need an input method of course as Kana only are not
enough for Japanese, you need Kanji as well.
