Ummm.. what? Why would you suggest to do this? It's not doing any harm, but... it's not necessary. I do a default install, add pavucontrol and that's it. On 12.3 (and 12.2.... cant' remember farther back) I've never had to explicitly add alsamixer. I only add pavucontrol as well because (on every machine I've installed it) Skype can't seem to get its poop in order and configure sound correctly without it.
