Hi guys, some thoughts after reading the post on the planet..
I guess this one: http://blogs.kde.org/2013/04/11/hackweek9-lightweight-kde-desktop-project-up... and more details at: https://trello.com/board/klyde/515be014e9d9a5cf48007e01
* Startup time and memory footprint, the main point is here ! Load less, start fast. I don't know what can be done but these things are the most important..
I don't know how 12.3 works on a computer with normal hard disk, but on one with SSD drive boot is really fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11a25rHT4II That real boot speed with dual core AMD CPU, right after installation.
* System settings, needs some love. All look & feel page should be groupped. Please, don't hide/remove options. There's no a real issue here, IMHO..
There is a real issue with too many options for basic setup. With screen that Jos posted some days ago, it is easy to explain new users where to fix basic problems, although with so simplified setup there will be not so many asking where are those options. As I understand effort, it is about hiding advanced setup options from first time users, not about removing options from configuration. ...
Don't start klipper by default. Who really know (newbie POV) what is for ?
Klipper is needed. It doesn't matter do you know what it is for, as without copy-paste will not work, or it doesn't as we are used to that.
Cleanup krunner. Some options are for geeks ;)
Krunner and a lot of other places will benefit from two tier presentation. Simple for new users, and advanced for insiders. If one does not find some option - click Advanced and see all of them.
Daniele.
