(re)moving that should return you to the default configuration - of course that would mean you have to reconfigure your accounts and other stuff.
I tried deleting the config file which is in the .purple folder under my user. That didnt do anything.
I did notice my wife's laptop is having a similar problem and she's using opensuse 11.0 and kde3.
I may shotgun it and delete Pidgin and see if reinstalling it will do any good or maybe go to a previous version.
