I looked for howto do this in man pages, couldn't find in xorg.conf or xrandr
pages, and could find no randr page. How does one disable randr in xorg.conf?

Maybe he refers to the panning feature, which has gone with xrandr 1.2.
Look at: http://emmes.livejournal.com/2700.html
That's it exactly. I have a new box built to replace the one now running
10.2. Desktop "panning" is crucial, so I have to pick an OS to install that
has it. What is the newest openSUSE that does, 10.2?
I'd expect that this problem will go away if you simply completely disable
the randr extension in xorg.conf .
