Vale, Did you run sax2 to set up your graphics card & monitor? It may not be able to locate a suitable setting for running a gui. Drop down to init 3 and run sax2, then you may get to kde!

Hi Pat
I'm getting into KDE from failsafe mode by 'exec startkde'. And my graphics card and monitor are detected properly by sax2. Could it be a problem with kdm login manager ? (because thats where it deviates from the normal procedure)

Ok, then it may just be that you need to go into YaST2 and set the level to boot too, like init 5 or specify the gui to be loaded like kdm? Don't recall off the top of my head where exactly it is, but check that to see where you are at.

Sorry to just jumping in here and I'm not sure if it is relevant , but my log in screen only gives me the option "" KDE, Default and Failsave". It used to give me about seven options to choose from, but they all seem to have disappeared. Using SuSE 8.2. Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south.
