KDM3 is back and running! I looked over your diffs without finding any really
obvious differences between what you did and what I did. Still, I did make a
few insignificant changes (/etc/init.d/xdm and /usr/X11R6/bin/wmlist), did
init 3, init 5 and KDM3 reappeared from its week long absence. I undid the
changes in order to track down the problem, but KDM3 still worked!
So, in the end, I am left with a functioning KDM3, but clueless as to how it
came about. :-)
