I have a thread in opensuse-kde discussing the lack of activities or any method of creating an activity on my Tw systems, also another server on 13.1.
As mentioned on the KD mailinglist, for KDE4 (i.e. on 13.1) you need to have "kactivities4" installed. This was only recommended in the past, so you might not have it if you disabled/prevented the installation of recommended packages for some reason.

I have the activities widget but nothing happens when trying to activitate it.
Might be a graphics driver problem. Try with compositing turned off (systemsettings5->Display and Monitor->Compositor).
Normally have composting off, but tried both ways w/o success.
Does this command list any activities? Your activitymanager might not be reachable for some reason... qdbus org.kde.ActivityManager /ActivityManager/Activities ListActivities

If that works, you should also be able to create an activity via this: qdbus org.kde.ActivityManager /ActivityManager/Activities AddActivity name_of_my_new_activity
08:05 Crash:~ > qdbus org.kde.ActivityManager /ActivityManager/Activities AddActivity Graphics 7f9d96bc-4050-4d83-9c54-3727ac0d871b Indeed it did, but the widget "Show Activity Manager" does not show anything.
The "Desktop" menu does not provide for "creating" an activity.
The "Desktop" menu should provide an entry to show the "Activity Manager" which will let you create activities.
"should" but does not :( I created a "new" user and went to ttyX, logged in as "new" user: startx -- :1 Before the splash disappears I get three plasma5 crash notices and a missing sys-tray notice. plasma5 requests restarting but just continues to issue crash notices, never leaving the splash as long as I select "restart application". Closing w/o selecting "restart .." results in a black screen with mouse pointer but no menues or other actions besides a bright blue spot in the upper left hand corner when the mouse pointer is there. appears somthing's amiss :( But I know not what to do. Tried "new" user on a laptop and can access the X display but still no action from "Activity Manager" or meta+Q, with or without composting active. tks -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
