This issue may very well be a KDE4 issue. I decided to load KDE3

All I did was install KDE3 on the exact same machine and log into KDE3 and then
start glxgears; I was shocked at the differences in the frame rates for the
same hardware and with the desktop being the only difference. The KDE4 numbers
are above. Now,here are the frame rates from KDE3:
01:08 arete~> glxgears
31248 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6237.533 FPS
30700 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6139.998 FPS
29088 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5817.566 FPS
29807 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5953.829 FPS
29799 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5956.565 FPS
29687 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5930.866 FPS
A full 30+% faster than the frame rates seen under KDE4

After some more testing, it's obvious that the "slowness" and locking upAs in my 11.1B5 review post, I can't put my finger on the problem, but I
of the 11.1b5 KDE 4.1 desktop is either the Intel video driver or

notice
it. Especially when working with KDE control center.
on systems with other video than Intel.
Fred
I have an nvidia 8800GT and I saw it with the fbdev (frame buffer), nv
and
nvidia drivers. I still see it with the graphics system fully configured and
the graphics performance under 11.1 is 50% what it is under 11.0 kde3. On 11.1
Beta 5 I get:
21:13 arete~> glxgears
20919 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4183.754 FPS
22198 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4439.556 FPS
21181 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4236.142 FPS
I get over 10,000 FPS in 10.3 and over 9,000 FPS in 1.0. There is
something
wrong with the Graphics subsystem.
