Find "Folder View" widget in the list of widgets and use mouse to move it to
the place on the screen where you want it. Than use properties to select
type and point it to folder/directory that you want to see in the widget.

Tsk, makes one wonder why people are having so much trouble in getting
to like KDE4.

"Simple" would be you have a "real" desktop with icons on it. Not a
window on top of the desktop with icons in it.
