umtsmon

  Reason: Despite NetworkManager finally offering UMTS support, I does
  not cover the full range of functionality umtsmon provides (like SMS
  or changing PIN as far as I can see), plus NetworkManager is a NoGo
  for many and actually failed to work or me in my last tests in March.

  Pattern: Laptop

oprofile

  Reason: Commonly used tool for performance debugging, enabled by our
  kernels.

  Pattern: Base Development, though not necessarily enabled by default.

wondershaper

  Reason: I see this recommended and used with certain regularity, though
  it is less clear cut than the first two.

  Pattern: Network Administration?

xfsdump

  Reason: key for those using XFS file systems.

  Pattern: Enhanced Base System.
