So no, I will not install kde4 in 11.
This is not very bright thinking. You should try 11.0 A3, just with KDE4, and than judge again. 10.3 and KDE4 is just not the same.
KDE 3 and KDE 4 are not compatible, version 4 overrides.
So, unless there is an easy way to fully uninstall one and install the other... I don't see a way to try.

I have a laptop where kde3 seems to freeze needing init 3 followed by init 5 until it freezes again with mouse cursor moveable, but does nothing and keyboard also does nothing, so at the login prompt I chose the kde4 session and all is well. When using kde3, e.g., "which startkde" returns /opt/kde3/bin/startkde and when using kde4 it returns /usr/bin/startkde. I am able under kde3 to start the kde4 version of kate by issuing "/usr/bin/kate". On one laptop /usr/bin/kate doesn't exists, but in the applications menu it lists "kde3/kate" which works. Where both the kde3 and kde4 apps are installed, kmenu lists both, so there is no confusion. There are a few odd things that don't work as expected, like it doesn't remember multiple tabs for konsole across a reboot, but I expect that by 11.0 GM, quite a few more things will be fixed. Currently I'm running 2 laptops on kde4 and 3 desktops on kde3. Even mythtv and friends that have only days ago migrated to qt4, build fine. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
