The os keeps on working - it just doesn't automount. We introduced subfs
for KDE users and removed it again as it's no longer needed and causes a lot
of problems. We had autofs since about forever and you're free to configure
it to your liking. But our default is GNOME/KDE and both don't need it - and
as you move away from the default, you loose convenience. But it's your
choice.
