--- Comment #19 from C. Andrews Lavarre 2013-01-01 22:03:19 UTC ---
Hello thanks all, especially Comment #4.
As of today 1/1/13 I have deleted all cups, poppler, printers, etc., then
rebooted and reinstalled using defaults required by installing an HP 6400
series and its attendant cups dependencies. Experimentation log available on
request.
The problem remains under openSUSE 12.2 on a 32 bit machine: I can print a CUPS
test page from *yast2 printer* but not from any other application I've tried,
including LibreOffice Writer, Calc, GnuCash, Thunderbird, or Firefox. All fail
with the cited
/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops failed
Thanks also for Comment #12, but Stephan's repository is now empty, which
suggests that his fix is in the MR? Thus I cannot obtain the results of Comment
#14.
Has the MR been released? As I said, I have updated as completely as I can with
YAST2 and the problem remains.
Of particular note, my system's default installation did NOT install any of the
poppler libs or apps, but they are indicated as being available at version
0.20.0-2.5.1. There are many variations of course (-glib, -qt4, -cc0, etc) so
are there any ones in particular that I need to install manually to restore
printing?
I'd already tried installing all of these and their devel versions as well, in
addition to reverting to the older versions (0.20.0-2.2.1-i586) before nuking
the lot and starting over.
I've also tried various versions of the HP drivers for the HP6400 series.
As noted above, I CAN print PDFs that I open in acroread.
Thanks again for all the hard work. Let me know how I can help. The several
hours of experiment data are available on request to alavarre@gmail.com
Happy New Year!
Kind regards, Andy
