http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621503 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621503#c5 --- Comment #5 from Thies Thate <m.j.thate@tele2.nl> 2010-07-14 13:08:14 UTC --- Problem for HP Deskjet F4580 wifi really solved. I did a new installation of openSUSE 11.3 (rc2) Switched printer on , logged in in Gnome and stopped the firewall (this is necessary otherwise the printer cannot be found) Control Center/Printing/Add/Login as root/select device/networkprinter and now you see allready the F4500 series printer. Than click Forward and Driver has been searched and found. Then follows the printer description page, fill in. Click apply and give root password. You can make a testpage. Now you need to logout and login the session. And than you see the blue HPLIP Status Service icon on the panel. Right click on this icon and choose HP Devicemanager now you can see everything is working, including the scanner, cartridges level etc. This works fine, thanks to openSUSE! (HPLIP and HPLIP-HPIJS 3.10.2-1.10 as standard installed are OK. I see a new version is coming in the 3.10.2-1.13 but not yet used.) (You can inform HP, if not allready done so) (In reply to comment #3)
There is also no "Deskjet F4580" listed at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/combined.html
Only a "HP Deskjet f4500 All-in-one Printer Series" is listed which should be supported since HPLIP version 3.9.10 but the column "Network or JetDirect" states explicite "No" so that from my point of view there is in particular no support for connection via Wi-Fi.
In case of doubt, you may ask HP directly e.g. via http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/support.html
