I did what you asked, I've been changing cables (which worked on other gigabyte
cards that I have on my system) and now got the results - it works. However
when I put back the old cable it worked again.
I thought it must be that it's not sitting right in PCI slot (I reconnected it
again), although on my router I can see that 1GB connection is made (green
light for 1GB, yellow for 100Mb). Anyway, it works now in openSUSE, however it
still doesn't work in Ubuntu with kernel 2.6.31.xx or .32... But that is not
your concern.
It seems like a hardware problem. I'm sorry for saying that it's a kernel bug,
but I saw that people are having the same problems all over the internet, and
here it doesn't work on most of the systems but it works on opensuse 32bit
gnome. I don't know is is maybe the 64bit version of OS that causes the
problem.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help.
