Freek de Kruijf said in the other bug 445122 :
It is not the wording that is confusing. But the behaviour.
If I do an installation using the NET-CD, I have to set a fixed IP-address and
I have to configure netmask, default gateway and IP-address of the a DNS. These
parameters are partly copied to the installed system. They still show up in the
network settings in YaST shortly after the first boot of the new installed
system. However the running system uses NM and ignores these settings. So the
network does not work. In YaST I can change the settings to disable NM and use
the traditional ifup method. Doing so and continuing does not disable NM at
that moment and the network is not functioning. Only after a reboot the network
works as it should with my previous defined parameters.
In 11.0 you can use YaST to change from the traditional ifup method to NM and
vice-versa. As soon as you finish the Yast network module, the new
configuration is in effect either controlled by ifup or NM. Apparently this has
changed in 11.1, at least after the first boot.
