I think that are way to solve this or change the current behaviour to
user-friendly one. Closing the report (as invalid especially) does not solve
anything, does it?
256MB was OK for opensuse (live) KDE4, it was OK for Debian Lenny, but it is
not OK for installer. Well, it say something about installer, but well, it is
not a bug.
A bug is:
* lack of information of higher demands of installer -- if it is known (and
this can be tested) that installer requires 1GB of RAM, please put the
information about it -- checking free RAM is possible
* restarting environment on no free RAM was never discussed really -- no matter
what you use, malloc, new, this function/operator gives the pointer to the
memory, the task of the developer is to check if the memory was really
allocated, if not, quit the program for example, but not crash environment
This has nothing to do if user has 256MB of RAM or 1GB of RAM. The current
behaviour is unacceptable because obviously installer cannot handle low memory
for itself (it could be causes by low system memory or by programs running in
the background).
Bottom line is -- installer is too gullible and too dangerous for the system
(good luck it is live system).
Reopening of course.
I will test this issue some more, so I write about memory consumption ASAP. I
didn't install it further, I will do it now.
