During an earlier upgrade from 10.3 to 11.0, I *was* very careful to select the correct disk/partition but that did not eventually work because of the above problem and I had to wipe the 10.3 install and install 11.0 on my disk. This appears to be an issue with enumerating sata/ide disks first and then scsi disks, versus the other way around.
