ok, the way I break vista seems highly non related to this bug ;(

Just /bin/dd bs=446 count=1 if=/usr/lib/boot/master-boot-code of=/dev/sda
will make the system unbootable and then trying to boot windows will mark the
partition somehow because it's impossible to fix the booting in restoring the
MBR.

The more I look into it, the more I think it's not the bug others seeing.

In every case, it seems very dangerous to offer master-boot-code for these
machines.
