The easiest way is to edit /sbin/mkinitrd on the installed system.
What you do is:
a) Start up rescue system
b) mount the installed system under /root
c) issue a 'mount --bind /dev /root/dev'
d) chroot into /root
e) mount /sys
f) mount /proc
g) edit /sbin/mkinitrd according to the patch in comment #4
h) re-run mkinitrd
i) reboot.
The system should now come up properly. Once it has booted, you should install
the mkinitrd maintenance update to be sure to have the proper fix.
