+ if [ "$#" = "3" ] && [ "$2" != "cciss" ] && [ "$2" != "ida" ] ; then
Maintaining exceptions from block device notation in lvm basically sucks. The mylex driver seems to fall into this category as well and I doubt anyone would want to maintain 2 places for exceptions from the default disk device notation. Isn't there any better way to map a device file name to LVM for certain?
+ elif [ "${blockdriver%%[0-9]*}" = "ida" ] ; then + blkpart="ida!${bd##*/}" + blkdev="${blkpart%%p[0-9]}"
Same goes for this one. I think this should be fixed in a more generic way, like it's done in the mylex patch anyway. Though I have to admit that this should not be done in block, but rather in blockpartition. The same complaint about adding driver-specific code comes in here as well. Furthermore the sysfs directory contains no "device" symlink. So even though the patch might apply correctly, it does not fix the actual problem that the kernel module can not be found, as the link between block device and the real device is simply missing. I would propose to use attachment 178316 as a base and move the sed clause to blockpartition (hope that does not break anything). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you check if the above patch helps here? Looks like it could, but then ...
Yes, I will check this patch, but can you give me a little instruction how to apply this patch? Can you give me a small step by step instruction, please? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

2007-10-22 additional info: original poster solved his problem by coying initrd from another SuSE 10.3 installation and re-writing GRUB after booting from Knoppix. http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=242799 No possible solution for me: 2 other computers running 10.2 - and I don't want to risk another non bootable machine.
False, i didn't solve the problem this way. Of course i tryed but it works not. I still have the problem, too. Greets Werner -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
