As I mentioned in comment #2, this activity stopped some time after I closed
Firefox and Thunderbird, but I am not sure whether the stop is related to
closing them.
Also note the CPU usage of 92.7%wa (I am not sure what this means) and that no
application is using a significant CPU percentage. Finally, note that a
considerable amount of swap is used while the RAM is almost empty. Usually, my
system uses almost no swap and all of its RAM, as for example right now with
similar applications open. Finally, I think I don't use any exotic
applications, just standard KDE stuff, Thunderbird, Firefox, emacs.
And it really feels like the system is swapping, which it should not do if so
much RAM is free?!
