Summary: ECMAScript and JavaScript media types in mime.types file
Product: SUSE Linux 10.1
Version: Final
Platform: All
URL: http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc4329.txt
OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1
Status: NEW

The use of the former MIME Types text/ecmascript, text/javascript and
text/x-javascript is discouraged (marked obsolete) in favour of
application/ecmascript (ECMAScript) and application/javascript (JavaScript).
RFC 4329 "Scripting Media Types" defines valid MIME-Types for ECMAScript and
JavaScript and marks which ones are invalid. See
ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc4329.txt for details.
With respect to RFC 4329,
http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/ and
http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/text/, please add the MIME type for
ECMAScript, and change the JavaScript MIME type
from "application/x-javascript" to "application/javascript".
application/ecmascript es
application/javascript js

Most browser vendors (except Microsoft) have made their homework relating this
issue. The Server and OS vendors shouldn't be far behind.
Many thanks,
Sierk Bornemann
