In my case
mount -t smbfs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd,uid=cfd,rw does not work
but mount -t cifs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd,uid=cfd,rw does work
It's not really a workaround. cifs should be used with any modern SMB server. smbfs is only a legacy module for w95, os/2 and other very old SMB servers that speaks an outdated version of the SMB protocol. -Andi
