This message is purely informational, not functional. It just means this module is not supported by SuSE. It is not a failure message.
I have the 2.6.11.4-21.7-smp kernel.
What can I do? You could try /etc/samba/smbfstab. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871
I don't suceed with smbmount. What is you error message?
The command "mount -t smbfs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd" does not give an error message. However, with "df" I get " Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 77085512 4259256 72826256 6% / tmpfs 1770980 12 1770968 1% /dev/shm df: `/S': Permission denied " Currently, I have SuSE 9.3 on an opteron. The same "mount" works on an older PC running with SuSE 9.0.
What can I do?
You could try /etc/samba/smbfstab.
Is it a file in addition to /etc/fstab? Christian -- Geschenkt: 3 Monate GMX ProMail gratis + 3 Ausgaben stern gratis ++ Jetzt anmelden & testen ++ http://www.gmx.net/de/go/promail ++

Try adding users to your mount options, as well as rw if that is what you want. Also, what is the permissions on /S?

Might be a difference in samba versions. It could be something that shouldn't have worked that was finally fixed as well.

You could try /etc/samba/smbfstab.
Is it a file in addition to /etc/fstab? Yes, but serves the same purpose for samba shares. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

I tried mount -t smbfs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd, uid=cfd,rw but I get the same error: oberon:/ # ls -d /S /bin/ls: /S: Permission denied The same happens with the additional option gid=users. I didn't try smbfstab yet. Just to be clear: the share is on a windows server 2003, not on a Samba server. Christian -- Weitersagen: GMX DSL-Flatrates mit Tempo-Garantie! What are the permissions of the /S directory before the mount ? Just a thought .... -- William A. Mahaffey III --------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember, ignorance is bliss, but willful ignorance is LIBERALISM !!!!

No that should be OK. The permissions of the mount point can affect access of the mounted volume. If the /S directory were permitted 700, for example, that would give the behavior you originally asked about (I have had that rather sneaky problem in the past, that's why I brought it up :-) ). -- William A. It seems that "mount -t smbfs" needs to change information with signing. The mount works with SuSE 9.0, but doesn't with SuSE 9.2 and 9.3. Workaround: Use cifs instead of smbfs. In my case mount -t smbfs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd, uid=cfd,rw does not work but mount -t cifs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd, uid=cfd,rw does work Christian -- 5 GB Mailbox, 50 FreeSMS http://www.gmx.net/de/go/promail +++ GMX - die erste Adresse fr Mail, Message, More +++

In my case
mount -t smbfs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd,uid=cfd,rw does not work
but mount -t cifs //osiris/scsi-raid /S -o username=cfd,uid=cfd,rw does work
It's not really a workaround. cifs should be used with any modern SMB server. smbfs is only a legacy module for w95, os/2 and other very old SMB servers that speaks an outdated version of the SMB protocol. -Andi
