1) Is it possible to get DVD's to play on the AMD64? 32 bit or 64 bit player, either one.
Yes. 64 bit. I use Kaffeine in preference to xine, though.
2) If so, is there a source somewhere with step by step instructions on how to accomplish that? Instructions geared to a complete newbie...
Instructions for xine-lib 1. Download xine-lib source from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xine/. I used xine-lib-1-rc3c. I also tried xine-lib-1-rc4a, but it had an assembler bug, which has apparently been fixed in xine-lib-1-rc5. 2. Unpack source to a build directory. 3. In the build directory, run ./configure --enable-libsuffix=64 --prefix=/opt/kde3 4. Then run make 5. Then run make install and you are done. I can send you my config.log, make.out and make-install.out if you want to see the details.
