I have a problem with high pitch noise coming from my laptop monitor only under Linux and not under Windows. I suspect is something to do with the refresh rate, so I took the exact values used in Windows and used a modeline generator to generate the correct modeline. The thing is that if I check the Xfree log, it still uses another modeline and not the one I tell it to use. Here are my config and log files: http://nemesis.ee.teiath.gr/~ee3240/XF86Config http://nemesis.ee.teiath.gr/~ee3240/XFree86.0.log
If you can take a look and tell what might be wrong.
This might be the cause of your problem: (II) RADEON(0): Valid mode using on-chip RMX: 1024x768 It appears it is overwriting your 1024x768 mode with a built-in mode. Try renaming your modeline to something like "1024x768@70", and use that name in your Screen section as well. Let me know if it (doesn't) work. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
