Hi all,
tested and looks good so far. Details:
System: P4 3.0 GHz HT on Asus P4C800 2GB RAM ATI Radeon 9250 ( ATI RV280 5960 ( radeon ) ), 3D enabled Belinea 102005 (Digital TFT) SuSE9.2pro
1. Problem (with 6.8.1) I have the same problem like described in "https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1829" but the flickering and blanking only happens when running 3D apps (tested with glxgears and quake3a). Sometimes I saw the OSD message "Out of Frequency". Changing the resolution with yast: monitors OSD always shows a resolution near to the monitor's default (1600x1200). So if I select 800x600 or 1024x768, OSD tells me something like 1598x1200 and the picture looks awfull. Using a analog TFT, both problems are gone.
Updating to 6.8.2rc1 did not solve the problems with the digital TFT until I added "IgnoreEDID" to the xorg.conf. Now I can play quake without problems, but glxgears still sometime blanks the monitor. Unfortunately I did not test the "IgnoreEDID" option with 6.8.1 ...
Ok. Maybe you can get a login at bugs.freedesktop.org and add yourself to Cc of this bug to follow this discussion. I've added myself to Cc as well.
2. Problems with updating After updating to 6.8.2rc1, the symbolic link "xorg.conf --> XF86Config" got replaced by a new xorg.conf file. Using yast/sax to change settings seems to only modify XF86Config. So I copied the xorg.conf to XF86Config and recreated the link.
Oops. We do this because for the next SuSE release SaX2 writes xorg.conf instead of XF86Config before. Therefore it would make sense to update to our new SaX2 packages as well. Marcus, could you please update your SaX2 packages on the ftp server for this? ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/SaX2 The current version does not seem to include this change yet. :-(
Now everything seems cool, except: each time I install any software yast wants to uninstall "xterm".
This sounds strange and is something I cannot reproduce on my 9.2 system. Could you please provide the output of "rpm -Va --nofiles"?
Obviously, here are no major disadvantages by installing 6.8.2 but I didn't test any PostScript stuff, xinerama, dual-head yet ..
Ok. Thanks for testing and feedback! Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.)
