[opensuse-wiki] Removing empty comment delimiters
When you see something like this in templates: </div></div><!-- --><noinclude> Please do not remove comment delimiters <!-- and --> . Their purpose is to remove new line that will otherwise appear in page where template is included, but still keep template source text readable. The same is valid for Portal page template. Comment delimiter position is not accidentally right after </div> and extends to next <div>. It has the same purpose as the one in templates. It is nice when there is some text, like: ....</div><!-- Left column --><div> .... but even without they are not forgotten garbage, but set to keep new lines to appear in target page, and spoil layout. I just cleaned up a bit http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick from such extra empty lines, that was not possible to see in the page source text. This page needs rewrite as text is good example how it should NOT be written. One line Linux instruction, next windows, and that is supposed to be text for people that are used to read plain text, not a program code. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

IIRC we had special:expandtemplates to make such things visible - but it seems that extension got lost somehow. (If someone wants to test it, you can try www.hortipendium.de/special:expandtemplates - but you should also take a page from hortipendium.de so that the templates actually exist.) Matthew, can you please install the extension (again)? http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ExpandTemplates Regards, Christian Boltz -- Und da ich falsch geschrieben habe, was ja flasch ist, da faslch richtig geschrieben ja richtig und nicht falcsh ist, hab ich durch das richtige schreiben einen Fehler gemacht und damit das Wort flasch richtig ver- wendet, da es ja flashc ist, was hier nicht richtig, aber passend ist. I guess that it was disabled as it was not specially useful for our use case. We don't have complex templates like Wikipedia, where template is nested within another and so on for few levels. Also, whoever removed comment delimiters did not check effects on articles that include those templates, and I don't think that presence of extension will help much :) All changes was easy to spot, in real or sandbox pages. What would be helpful if someone (including me :) takes time and think how to create information system that will help editors to get information without reading a lot of emails, or wiki pages.

Well, ... ;-) I know Wikipedia uses some highly complex tempates which make expandtemplates very useful (as in: without it, it's *impossible* to debug them ;-) - but expandtemplates is still useful for not-so-complex templates. Whitespace issues are a prominent example where it is very helpful. Oh, and ExpandTemplates "only" provides a special page, so I don't expect any conflicts with other extensions.

What about a note about the comments in the template documentation? Since you probably need it more than once, it should be a template itsself ({{html-comment-note}}) to avoid duplication. That's one part. The other part would be a help: page specific for template "tricks" (which could also include {{html-comment-note}}. (Before you ask: ENOTIME ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz --
Hier hab ich gerade noch was gefunden, was ist denn bitte ein Dialerzwang? Ein guter Grund zu einem anderen Provider zu wechseln.
