Problems downloading 9.2 FTP version
Listers, I received a few days before the ftp release a set of copied 9.2 cd's. However they turned out to be bad. Since I do not have a static IP, I cannot do a FTP install, so I copied what was good to the hard drive, with the intention of obtaining the rest using wget (i figure i have at least 2/3rds of the files I need, so that should speed things up), and then do an install from hard disk. I am using OSU as the closest server with this command: nqs@linux:~/9.2> wget -cr --cut-dirs=5 -R *.src.rpm,*.iso,*.x86_64.rpm ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/suse/suse/i386/9.2/* The problem seem that in both /i586 and /i686 directories, .listing is not there. I've checked several other US mirrors + ftp.suse.com, and nowhere can I find these files. I even tried downloading the entire i586 directory from both OSU and SuSE, SuSE isn't accepting new connections, but with OSU I see this in the log: PASV 227 Entering Passive Mode (140,211,166,134,205,134). RETR /.1/suse/suse/i386/9.2/suse/i586/7plus-2.25-597.i586.rpm 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for /.1/suse/suse/i386/9.2/suse/i586/7plus-2.25-597.i586.rpm (37894 bytes) Error: Cannot open local file /home/nqs/9.2/ftp.oregonstate.edu/suse/i586/7plus-2.25-597.i586.rpm: Permission denied ABOR 226 Transfer complete. PASV 226 Abort successful Cannot find an IP address in PASV response '226 Abort successful' Disconnecting from site ftp.oregonstate.edu Error: Remote site disconnected after trying to transfer file Could not download /.1/suse/suse/i386/9.2/suse/i586/a2ac-1.1-515.i586.rpm from ftp.oregonstate.edu Error: Remote site ftp.oregonstate.edu disconnected. Will reconnect in 30 seconds So it seems these directories are currently unobtainiable. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? any solutions? I used: wget -m -R iso -nv ftp://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/i386/9.2/ and had no problems. Try the ftp.ale.org site and see if you have better luck. I also monitored the progress and stopped the download when it got to the source dir's as they were last on the list. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

I got the ale.org tree. To boot to the HD partition to do the install, what is the grub string? root, boot, initrd, etc? Ed Harrison SuSE 9.1, Kernel 2.6.9-vanilla PolarBar Mailer 1.25a

I had downloaded the ftp-DVD iso before and burned it and used it to boot to for the install. Since it was my laptop I did a fresh install. Once the install was finished I setup another install source using the DVD and installed more packages that were not on the ftp-DVD iso. So far I am very happy with 9.2. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*
