[opensuse] Compiz Udates
I am a bear of very little brain. Using openSUSE 11.0 x86_64 and KDE3, I simply do not understand why various updates to compiz version 0.7.8 (and related emerald) from the X11:/XGL repository generally work well, whereas the ones from the new X11/Compiz repository generally do not work at all. As several recent threads have reported, difficulties in this area began a few days ago and then were fixed. Happy, happy. Similar difficulties returned today, at least for me, with the latest builds (compiz 0.7.8-12.1 et seq from the Compiz repository), which I have resolved by turning off that repository in YAST2 and going back to 0.7.8-9.1 and similar from the XGL repository. I'm not seeking to start a war of words. I'm just an ordinary user trying to understand what's happening here. More particularly, what do I need to do (or not do) to take advantage of available updates to compiz-fusion while avoiding complications from what are presumably version mismatches? That is a price you pay for being early bird testers for next generation of Compiz, best use packages that come with standard distribution and update only from official update channels if stability is what you want. Packages in X11:XGL are now frozen and will not see any more updates Cheers -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you. I understand; and I'd thought that X11:XGL updates had already been closed. I also understand that the risk to stability in going elsewhere is mine - though I also admit to an irrepressible (and incompatible) urge to update to whatever is available. A difficulty is, however, that I cannot find very much in the way of usable guidance on what is an official channel and what is not. Hence my confusions, perhaps. Official channel is the one that is configured when yast online update is configured. It is a good thing to use latest and the greatest, it helps us fix issues before future releases, only thing needed is to understand that you would a beta tester and be ready to deal with anything that can go wrong and not shout out that it is some evil conspiracy :) Cheers -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

apropos things that can go wrong and issues before future releases: i updated from the home:cyberorg-repo: all seems perfectly ok, but there is a little problem with menu-entries in kde3-programs and text in kde3-konsole. hilighting of menu-entries sometimes don't go away when mouse moves on to next menu-entry. and text in kde-konsole is displayed corrupted when cursor movements or text-input occurs. i am using latest nvidia-driver. maybe some problem with glyph-caching? -- einen schönen Tag noch DI Rainer Klier Und bitte keine TOFU-Mails (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
