Hi,

I'm starting to use dump here and I'm getting "bad magic number in super-block while opening filesystem" on my ReiserFS partitions.
Does dump not support ReiserFS???
Not at the current time. Dump is very closely related to the ext2 filesysten - it is not a trivial task to make it work with ReiserFS, too...
Yes, I now realize that. But almost every UNIX or UNIX-like OS that I know of has a dump that is compatible with the OS' native filesystem. If ReiserFS is going to be pushed as the default journalling FS on SuSE they we need utilities such as dump/restore. I think you'll find that ext2 is the native file system for SuSE and Linux in general. The ReiserFS is operational, but is still in it's infancy. I would suggest that you not use it for production systems. You are right, that the utilities are needed, but if you chooes to run "on the bleeding edge" (or at least the edge) you will indeed bleed a bit. Sorry. best, -- Wm. J. In my experience, reiserfs is way out of its infancy. Call me old-fashioned, but what's wrong with doing a backup using tar? If you arrange for regular backups through crond, --newer should take care of incrementals. -- ET. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
