[opensuse] Printer problems with 11.0
Hey Group; REF: HP LaserJet 4L /dev/lp0 foomatic printer openSuSE 11.0 RC i586 Since loading openSuSE 11.0 everyone of them has caused my printer to not work. On 11.0 beta 1 I did get it to work by completely by compiling and installing over openSuSE's version of cups. However, now "zypper dup" has again ruined he printer. Running the newest version of Yast2>Hardware>Printer seems not o find any of the foomatic or cups drivers for a HP Laserjet 4L. I have looked at /var/log/cups, "ps ax | grep cup" and any other way to track it down. Every thing seems to be working but the printer doesn't print. HP LJ4L has 2 green LEDs to indicate things are being buffered and working. Normally 1 and come on then 1 starts flashing. Now 1 comes on blinks and back on -> dead. It fails as root, su and as a user. Before someone ask if the printer works - YES! bootup distro "Puppy" and setup the printer - it works I think this is RC1 or maybe 2 Has anyone seen a similar problem. -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@windstream.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Installing printers via yast has proven to be erratic and unsuccessfully. Two printers are attached to this pc but it shows three printers. If a bottom printer (say a Laserjet is selected), another printer (say an ink-jet) is configured. On running a test print, an error message pops up complaining that a wrong queue has been selected. As an alternative, the printers were configured in cups through the web interface by pointing the browser to http://localhost:631. Make sure the printer(s) are connected to the pc. From the admin tab, select find new printers and any detected printers should be visible. Follow the prompts to configure and test the printer. The ink-jet was configured using the "Find Printers" command. For the laser-jet, the "add printer" option was selected and the prompts followed to configure and test the printer. Have you tried this? I had my own fair share of printer problems, and I got it to work by going through K Button -> Utilities -> Printing -> Printing -> New Printer and I have have DJ 932 so I used the HP inkjet driver, which was available. -- Michael S. Why would you be running RC1 instead of the *released* version, or did you not mean what you said? -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
