[opensuse] Is it possible to "blacklist" specific download server in Yast?
Hi, I'm using OpenSUSE 11.0, KDE3. In older versions it was possible to chose servers for SW download/update (Yast suggested some based on "proximity", but you could chose another server. Currently it looks like server is selected automatically. I have persistent problem with the server for build service Mozilla: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.0. I could see that I'm redirected to ftp://dispenser.yandex.net/opensuse/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.0 and YaST times out consistently on that server. So I have to download manually from different mirror. Is it still possible to chose a server or to blacklist specific server? It's not possible to blacklist, but you're not forced to go through the download.opensuse.org redirector. In the YaST "repositories" module, you can add whatever server you want to use manually, just like before Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks Anders and Rajko, stupid me... not thinking to just add one of the mirrors. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Put the server you like instead of http://download.opensuse.org/ and report bad server to admin@opensuse.org or ftpadmin@suse.com, so that admin can check server and remove from list that http://download.opensuse.org/ is using for redirection. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes. However, I think the OP could request a blacklist as a feature request in the bugzilla. Another feature request would be for yast/zypper to fail gracefully requesting another server to the redirector on failure on the one it gave use previously. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Both are ideas for the future 11.2 and after. You can see: https://features.opensuse.org/?rm=feature_show&id=305320 and when you are there just file requests, although the second might be already in 11.1. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for all suggestions. I tried to file "new feature" request, as Raiko suggested, but got a message that there are no products that I can request new features for?? For now added them as a comment to the one Raiko referred. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can use your /etc/hosts file to redirect the IPs of bad servers to 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0, forcing updaters to look to other servers, and preventing images loading from adservers among other things. -- "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry."
