[opensuse] VT6410 PCI IDE support in 11.0?
I recently picked up a PCI IDE card that uses the Via VT6410 chip. I'm running openSUSE v11.0 x64. While the kernel sees the controller and the individual ide ports, it doesn't show any drives attached to it. My motherboard is a P35 based Gigabyte with a Celeron E1200 overclocked to 3.2Ghz. I've tried googling, but there doesn't seem to be much info as to the status of this card and how to set it up. I dropped it into an XP machine and installed the drivers from the CD, so I know the card works. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What makes you think so? What's the output of lspci -vv?

That's the first thing I'd set to normal when trying to pinpoint the culprit! Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

lspci shows that the device is present and dmesg shows that the device is turned on and that the ide0 and ide1 ports are available.

That didn't make any difference. I did try setting it back. No change. I don't know that I've personally ever seen hardware problems like that due to overclocking. I've googled, and it doesn't seem like many people have much luck with this card. Oh well. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most CPUs have a locked multiplier meaning that to overclock you are speeding up the FSB which usually affects the PCI bus speed. <sarcasm>I see no connection with possible problems with PCI cards </sarcasm> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Seems you don't overclock much. The new boards have dividers for the PCI/AGP/PCIe/RAM buses so that they run at stock speeds. While my Celeron E1200 has a stock 800Mhz FSB(200Mhz quad pumped), it runs just fine at 1600(400Mhz quad pumped) with proper cooling. I have P3 boards that have dividers for the AGP/PCI buses so that you don't overclock them. I've overclocked almost every computer I've ever had and never lost a chip, board, or ram yet. Like I pointed out, it didn't matter if it was stock or not. And, it works just fine in my roommate's CeleronD 3.2(That's NOT overclocked) running XP. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Jepp, that looks like it.

Then please open a bug report on https://bugzilla.novell.com to bring this to our attention. If you do that, put me into CC as pth@novell.com as I'm interested in this. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'll try to get one opened tonight when I get home and can get the dmesg and lspci info to post. Thanx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
