I'm still having problems with XFree86 on my newly installed SuSE 8.1 system. 1) The more annoying problem is that, sometimes (about 1 in 3 or 4 logins), the mouse pointer goes haywire. Instead of of nicely following the mouse, the pointer jumps around, randomly emulating mouse clicks. The problem can be cured by restarting the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. The mouse has been working properly on the login screen. The mouse itself works fine under Win98 on the same PC, and two different mice (one cordless and one not) give the same effects. When the mouse works, it works perfectly (wheel and all); it's just that it's inconsistent. Relevant section of XF86Config: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "ButtonNumber" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "Name" "Mouse" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection 2) I seem to be stuck in a 1280x1024 screen mode. The monitor is a 19" Iiyama VisionMasterPro 454, and is certainly capable of 1600x1200 (I drive it at this res in 2 other OSes, including Win98 on the same PC). However, I cannot make linux use the larger resolutions. I have tried Ctrl-Alt-+ to no avail, and the YaST and SaX tools say that 1600x1200 should be the default resolution. The graphics card is an NVidia GeForce2 MX/400, using the latest NVidia drivers as downloaded through YOU. Again, the relevant section of XF86Config: Section "Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1600x1200" "1600x1024" "1600x1000" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1600x1200" "1600x1024" "1600x1000" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 32 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection Device "Device[0]" Identifier "Screen[0]" Monitor "Monitor[0]" EndSection Can anyone suggest how I could get things working properly? I have just backed out and fallen back on the 'dummy' nv driver for my elderly Riva TNT card. It was nice having OpenGL configured (first trip for me), but I didn't like some of the other things happening, slow re-write of console screen, some font oddities, and thought they might be due to the nvidia drivers. On a few hours work, I think they probably were due to exactly that. I wonder if it's worth reverting to see if your problems are solved? Suse 8.0 NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm, NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.suse80.i386.rpm, NVidia GeForce2 MX/400 I am getting some unusual things happening with this card but cannot say for sure where it emanates from. It may be to do with redrawing the screen. Software that is open continues to work ok, but I can hardly see it due to the lines across the screen. I do not have a solution to your problem -just noticed that your card was the same as this one. Brian Marr On Monday 07 October 2002 22:58, Fergus Wilde wrote:

John, Don't know if this will have anything to do with your problem, but I notice you have Emulate3Buttons set to "on" and I don't think you need or want that with your mouse. The Emulate3Button option, I believe, is for the mice with only 2 buttons. If yours has the scroll wheel, then it also has a third button, so there is no need to emulate. Whether that fixes the problem or not, my guess would that that it should be removed anyway. //Patrick-- --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206
