Hi,
I can't convice evolution to read my local email out of dovecot. Thunderbird, Alpine, can read it fine. Evolution just says:
Error while scanning folders in "IMAP server localhost".
I have no clue what the problem might be.
Enable debug in dovecot.
I configure it in "receiving email" with server type "imap", server "localhost", username "cer". I tried security as none, as tls, or as ssl. None works. If I try "check for supported types", all get disabled, except "password". And this does not work.
[...]
Got it working, using the server name instead of localhost... go figure :-/
Well, my initial question is solved. But I wonder why "localhost" does not work.
Was dovecot listening on localhost and does 'localhost' resolve to "127.0.0.1" ? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.5°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Mmmm... I guess I should. But as I have it working... I often get something working just after I write it up.

I think so. Afterall, in alpine I have it configured to use localhost. cer@Telcontar:~> host localhost localhost has address 127.0.0.1 cer@Telcontar:~> netstat -puta | grep imap | grep localhost (Not all processes could be identified, non-owned process info will not be shown, you would have to be root to see it all.) tcp 0 0 localhost:imap localhost:51944 ESTABLISHED - tcp 0 0 localhost:51944 localhost:imap ESTABLISHED 3615/alpine tcp 0 0 localhost:imap localhost:52065 ESTABLISHED - tcp 0 0 localhost:imap localhost:38994 ESTABLISHED - tcp 0 0 localhost:38994 localhost:imap ESTABLISHED 3615/alpine tcp 0 0 localhost:52065 localhost:imap ESTABLISHED 3615/alpine Telcontar:~ # netstat -puta | grep dovecot tcp 0 0 *:imaps *:* LISTEN 4141/dovecot tcp 0 0 *:imap *:* LISTEN 4141/dovecot - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Then it's back to debug=on in dovecot if you want to know what it was that didn't work. I suspect some sort of authentication issue. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-1.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I wrote a note on my to-do list, so eventually I'll find out :-) - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Someone in the forums had problems with kmail (after a kde update) and dovecot. He was getting this error: "The server failed the authenticity check (localhost). The certificate does not apply to the given host" I told him to try the full hostname, and it worked for him. Interesting :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Yes, the Common Name in the certificate must match the hostname. You didn't mention if you were using TLS though? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The server has tls configured. It must have, or connecting from other computers would not work. In this case, I tried plain, tls and ssl with localhost, none worked, and the message from evolution didn't say much. Currently, my evolution is configured to use tls and full name. It is this other person problem with kmail which sent me thinking. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. That must be a restriction you've added (unless it's the default opensuse config). I have no problem connecting to dovecot without TLS.
In this case, I tried plain, tls and ssl with localhost, none worked, and the message from evolution didn't say much.
Currently, my evolution is configured to use tls and full name.
If you didn't explicitly configure dovecot for TLS, I guess it must be the default opensuse config - you would still have to supply the certificates though? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.8°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
