[opensuse] failed into KDE after upgrading to 12.2 using zypper
Hi all, Last night,I upgraded my opensuse from 12.1 to 12.2 using zypper. After I reboot my system, opensuse failed to get into KDE. I have checked the Xorg.0.log, it said about fglrx, the ati linux driver. So I reinstalled amd linux driver in 12.2,it failed to install completely. It still can't into KDE. Can this problem be solved? Thanks. Brad Yan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had this problem with 12.1, as far as i know there was no fix. I managed to install 12.2 but now i can view any flash based things like youtube, bbc iplayer. Getting a video driver to work with ATI can be quite a challenge now. A whole lot depends on the particular chipset. The following is a lot of complex info, but nonetheless I think the answer may be here (the July link is to provide background not in the October updated posts): http://lizards.opensuse.org/2012/07/31/amdati-catalyst-fglrx-fglrx-legacy- news/ http://lizards.opensuse.org/2012/10/28/amdati-fglrx-9-002-catalyst-12-10- released/#more-9083 http://lizards.opensuse.org/tag/fglrx/ http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AMD_fglrx Be sure to understand everything first and follow instructions exactly, easier said than done. Good luck. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What video chip is reported by 'lspci | grep VGA'? Is it really KDM that you cannot get into (no GUI login dialog?)? What exactly does happen when you boot? If it is really KDE/KDM rather than a general X problem, then asking on opensuse-kde list may produce better help. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." It's ati VGA Radeon HD 6630M.

If it is really KDE/KDM rather than a general X problem, then asking on opensuse-kde list may produce better help. I think it's general X problem, check the log below. I solved this problem.I uninstalled the amd official linux driver, and the 12.2 system can start Xorg using radeon driver. I think the root cause is after upgrading, the ati proprietary kernel module is not found in 3.4.11-2.16-desktop.
