[opensuse] Gimp 2.8 in openSUSE
Hi, GIMP 2.7.99 is there in the factory repo. I am running 12.1 is it safe to use or recommend installing GIMP from Factory on 12.1? Swapnil -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Never mix Factory with a stable repo as it won't work most of the time. Use software.opensuse.org/serarch to search for gimp and see if there are newer versions available for 12.1, possibly from home repositories which you have to enable by clicking on the 'Show unstable packages' link. hth Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hey thanks. Did you mean this checkbox: Show development, language and debug packages
If that's what you meant neither GIMP 2.7 now LO 3.5 is available by selecting that option. They are there in factory though. Swapnil

Tried getting this error: BABL version too old! GIMP requires BABL version 0.1.10 or later. Installed BABL version is 0.1.4. you'll have to install libbabl-0_1-0 from that repo; it's available and doesn't conflict with any original libraries. looking at YAST, i have the following libraries installed from the gimp-2.7 repo: gegl-0_2 gimp-2.8 gimp-branding-upstream gimp-help-browser libbabl-0_1-0 libgegl-0_2-0 libgimp-2_0-0 libgimpui-2_0-0 this works for me and should for you, unless of course you got other non-standard repos that might conflict with these libraries... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

looking at YAST, i have the following libraries installed from the gimp-2.7 repo:
gegl-0_2 gimp-2.8 gimp-branding-upstream gimp-help-browser libbabl-0_1-0 libgegl-0_2-0 libgimp-2_0-0 libgimpui-2_0-0
this works for me and should for you, unless of course you got other non-standard repos that might conflict with these libraries...
Thanks in the mean time when I was waiting for response I just looked under the version name of libbabl and found that there was an option of upgrade so did that and am now running GIMP 2.8. I am a new openSUSE user so there are some hiccups but thanks to the well-informed and awesome community which always gives a solution. Thanks again. Marking it solved. glad you got it working, and you're welcome, of course. like all distros i've experienced, or rather _everything_ i've experienced, new things seem difficult in the beginning, until you get the hang of it. re. the community here, it's one of the main reasons for me to stick to openSUSE. people aren't _always_ friendly (who is?), sometimes you catch someone at the wrong moment, or old best enemies have a socking match once in a while. but one can always rely on expert advise and solutions; the number of real experts here and in other opensuse mailing lists is incredible. just by hanging around and paying attention to problems that might affect you sooner or later, you'll know solutions to most of them before they. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Totally agree. The community has been an immeasurable help in my learning to use openSUSE, and I am still learning. I wish I had more time in the day to read through every thread in detail. -- G.O.
