[opensuse] Woekspace question
Greetings. I'm using OpenSUSE 11.4 with the KDE/Kwin environment and I'm noticing that when I first boot up I'm not able to switch beyond the workspaces directly adjacent to the initial workspace. The pager widget indicates that I've got four desktops defined, but I can't use the keyboard to switch beyond the directly adjacent workspace until I have used the mouse to add or delete a workspace using the pager widget. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this behavior - and if there is a fix for this. aTdHvAaNnKcSe -- JAY VOLLMER I write technical manuals; therefore, I am a manual laborer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

depends on your global keyboard shortcuts. you can assign shortcuts to move to the next desktop on the right, left, etc., and /or shortcuts that move to the next and previous desktops numerically, no matter how they're arranged in your pagers. you don't say which version of KDE you are using -- for me, in this case, it wouldn't make any difference though. i don't remember any of the default settings, since it's one of the first things i always change. i like to have both options available: moving spatially (is that the correct word?) or numerically through desktops. you find these and can adjust them, in KDE's 'systemsettings,' under 'shortcuts and gestures.' -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Are you able to use these below key combinations to switch among workspaces? Control+F1 Control+F2 Control+F3...... It is usually configured that way. You could change the way you want to by System Settings->Workspace Behavior->Virtual Desktop->On the right side panel you'll see two tabs. Go click for Switching Tab and watching on Shortcuts you will see the key combinations to switch to Desktops 1,2,3,4.....by default. In case is not asigned you could do it there. I'm sorry for leaving some details out of my original posting. Details are:KDE4.6, OpenSUSE 11.4, Plasma 4.6.0.kwin 4.6.0 I do use keyboard shortcuts. I'm using Kwin on a cube and like to spread my work over the cube faces, but as I mentioned using the keyboard, I cannot switch beyond the originally adjacent workspace until I add or remove one of the workspaces. The Ctrl+F1,Ctrl+F2, Ctrl+F3, Ctrl+F4 switching works, but my preferred key combo (AltCtrl+Left, AltCtrl+Right) don't work - these are assigned to move to the next desktop on the left or right. These combos aren't assigned elsewhere - as far as I can tell and the workspaces are in one row, four desktops wide. -- JAY VOLLMER I write technical manuals; therefore, I am a manual laborer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I am presently running KDE 4.8.2 on 12.2 (tumbleweed) with six desktops and have assigned "Switch one Desktop to the Right" to Ctrl+Alt+Right and "Switch one Desktop to the Left" to Ctrl+Alt+Left in systemsettings -> "global keyboard shortcuts" and they work as expected. Up and Down also work, and it goes around-the-corner. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

yes, same here. but what i've seen earlier, not sure which exact version, was that the focus always follows the layout of the pager in the bottom panel -- and if there's no pager in that panel (removed), it still follows the layout of the (default) pager that _would_ be there. there was a bug report at that time, don't know what happened to it. i have my main pager in a vertical panel on the right, and focus used to jump in a crazy way, apparently, until i figured that it was following the pager in the bottom panel. since then i always maintain a small pager there, with the same layout i use elsewhere; don't know if it's still required. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have six desktops, 2 rows of 3, and left <--> right also follows the pager layout :^) -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
